Kuth Energy plans to explore for Hot Rocks in northern Tasmania, close to high voltage power lines. If successful, it can export the electricity via the Basslink undersea cable into Victoria.

THE race to find some geothermal energy in Victoria stepped up a gear yesterday.

Prominent environmental lawyer and National Trust identity Simon Molesworth yesterday took the job of non-executive chair of Greenearth Energy.

A joint venture between Lakes Oil and Victoria Petroleum, Greenearth is looking to list on the ASX later this year.

De Graaf to lead geothermal company Uranoz

BERTUS de Graaf will return as managing director of an Australian geothermal energy company following a deal with explorer Uranoz, it was announced yesterday. Uranoz said yesterday it had acquired stakes in four geothermal projects, including one in South Australia. Three of the geothermal projects - in India and the Kyrgyz Republic - are owned by Dr de Graaf’s company Panax Geothermal.
